Mathis 1871 Bass River Voter Registrations
Beverly Mathis Robinson had requested that I post the 1871 Bass River Voter Registration pages that listed members of the Mathis family. Below are the "M" pages from the Voter Registration Booklet.
Years ago, friends of ours gave us a gift of the May 1920 "The Ladies Home Journal" cover framed for our home. It still has the address label which states, "Mrs. Ella M. Mathis, Box 24, New Gretna, NJ." Just found your website with blog and thought someone may have some history on this lady/family. Thanks.
I would love to have a copy of the magazine cover with Ella's address sticker for the Blog's New Gretna History Collection. I know where Ella lived and would like to do a Blog entry on the magazine cover and her home.
You could email the scan to the Blog at: bassriverhistory@gmail.com
According to the info. I have from Ancestry, Ella M. Mathis (hmm if this is the same one) Born 1868. Died1948. Descendent of John Mathis, Job Mathis, Daniel Mathis, Daniel Mathis, Daniel Edward Mathis and his wife Charlotte Cramer. The only problem I have is that this is her maiden name whereas your label has her as MRS. So, is this the same person or not. Beverly Mathis Robinson
Looks like you have the correct person. 1920 Census shows Ella M. Mathis 52 wife of Caleb A. Mathis 55 living on Allentown Road. Same for 1910 and 1900. No children, married in 1893. 1880 and 1870 census confirms that she is daughter of Daniel E. Mathis and Charlotte. Caleb is listed with his widowed mother, Sarah E. Mathis. Neither appears in 1870 Census. John Allen
